Pickering Residents Submit Petition to Stop Skyrocketing Property Taxes
2233-signature petition calls for tax freeze, transparency, and mandatory public consultation
Pickering, ON — March 30, 2026 — Residents of Pickering have formally submitted a community-driven petition urging immediate action to halt the skyrocketing rise in property taxes in the City of Pickering. Backed by 2233 verified signatures, and number of signatures are still growing , the petition reflects growing concern over affordability and calls for greater transparency and accountability in municipal financial decisions.
Initiated eight months ago by Azmat Mujeeb, a businessman and media professional, the petition was officially registered with the City Clerk on March 29, 2026. A delegation of residents met with Kevin Ashe on March 30, 2026, to present the petition and discuss key concerns.
The delegation was led by Azmat Mujeeb & Raziq Khursheed along with key community members including, Muhammad Amjad, Ali Miraj, Waseem Ijaz, Akhtar Jafri, Abdul Raouf, and Shuja Khan. A formal copy of the petition, along with the City Clerk’s acknowledgment letter, was submitted to the Mayor. The meeting was also attended by City Treasurer Stan Karwowski.
