Canada Announces Additional $100 Million in Humanitarian Assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank

I wanted to share an announcement made by Global Affairs Canada regarding additional humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

On Friday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand announced an additional $100 million in funding to support United Nations agencies, Red Cross and Red Crescent partners, and humanitarian organizations delivering assistance to Palestinian civilians affected by the ongoing crises in Gaza and the West Bank.

This funding brings Canada’s total international assistance in response to humanitarian needs in Palestine to more than $500 million since the beginning of the conflict. The new funding will support emergency medical assistance, food and nutrition programming, water and sanitation services, shelter, protection, and other life-saving humanitarian interventions. It also includes support for peace and stabilization initiatives, including mine action activities and efforts to strengthen security and stability.

The announcement comes as the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen and conditions in the West Bank deteiorate amid settlement expansion and rising extremist settler violence. Canada reiterated its call for the safe, rapid, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance, the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers, and full respect for international humanitarian law. The funding announcement is part of a broader series of measures undertaken by Canada this week, including the imposition of additional sanctions against individuals and entities linked to extremist settler violence in the West Bank, as well as the launch of the International Peace Fund for Israelis and Palestinians alongside Australia and the United Kingdom to support grassroots peacebuilding initiatives.

Canada continues to support efforts toward a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, including a two-state solution in which Israelis and Palestinians can live side-by-side in peace, security, and dignity.
