An official delegation, led by Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, Additional Secretary, Board of Investment (BoI), Government of Pakistan, is visiting Ottawa.

An official delegation, led by Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, Additional Secretary, Board of Investment (BoI), Government of Pakistan, is visiting Ottawa for negotiations on the Pakistan-Canada draft Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement/Bilateral Investment Treaty (FIPPA/BIT). The Pakistan delegation comprises senior officials from the relevant departments responsible for trade, investment and economic affairs.

At the opening session, Mr. Jean Christian Brillant, Director General, South Asia Bureau, Global Affairs Canada, welcomed the Pakistan delegation for productive and constructive deliberations.

High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem underlined the resolve on both sides to conclude a high-quality investment regime. He also highlighted that the Government of Pakistan has taken a number of initiatives to improve the ease of doing business including investor protection, transparent dispute prevention mechanisms and regulatory coherence as key pillars of its broader economic reforms agenda.

The Pakistan delegation will constructively engage with the Canadian counterparts to further strengthen bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation. The last round of FIPPA/BIT negotiations was held earlier in Islamabad in October 2025.
