Montreal, October 10, 2025 – The leader of Ensemble Montréal and candidate for mayor of the metropolis, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, announced that she will ban commercial short-term rentals across all of Montreal’s territory.
In a context marked by an unprecedented housing crisis, these measures aim to improve access to housing, protect citizens’ quality of life, and more strictly regulate short-term rental practices. These will be implemented in collaboration and alignment with the Government of Quebec.
In this way, Soraya Martinez Ferrada aims to target private companies that pose as landlords and deprive tenants of potential housing in the midst of a crisis. It should be noted that Projet Montréal’s regulations pushed people toward illegality.

Quotes:
“We urgently need strong leadership to solve the housing crisis, which is worse than ever in Montreal because of the Plante-Rabouin administration. At Ensemble Montréal, we will continue to prioritize citizens over commercial interests. The regulations will now be more coherent and fair for citizens, thanks in part to close collaboration with the Government of Quebec.” — Soraya Martinez Ferrada, leader of Ensemble Montréal and candidate for mayor of the metropolis.
“In Montréal, short-term rental rules are too often ignored. It’s time to end this leniency by reinforcing inspections, protecting our neighborhoods, and making more housing available for Montrealers.” — Sylvain Gariépy, Ensemble Montréal spokesperson for housing and urban planning, and candidate for Mayor of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-
“Over the past few years, Projet Montréal’s ineffective and arbitrary regulations have failed to address the housing crisis. Once again, their one-size-fits-all approach, imposed without consulting citizens, has proven to be a failure.” — Julien Hénault-Ratelle, candidate for City Councillor, Tétreaultville
