| Asalamu alaikum / Peace be upon you This week, thanks to all the support of the community, and the constant engagement of our advocates across Canada, we are seeing, after two years of genocide, the Palestinian flag being raised in jurisdictions across Canada. |
| As Sadaf Ahmed, our Government Affairs and Public Policy Officer in Manitoba, said at the flag raising, “This is about collective memory…and the right to sovereignty and self-determination”. But of course, sadly and tragically, there are those who do not want to see any acknowledgment of the Palestinian people in Canada. An organization has filed for an injunction to prevent the Palestinain flag to be raised at the City of Toronto, which is set to happen tomorrow. The argument of those applying for this injunction has been that there is a public safety threat to raising the Palestinian flag. NCCM, alongside other allies, has obtained intervenor status in this matter. We will be there to say clearly – following policy, procedure is not a public safety threat. Our existence is not a public safety threat. Our lawyers have worked tirelessly, including through the night, this weekend to get ready to put our best foot forward and to be ready in court. We’d like to ask for your support. There are so many court battles like this that we need to fight but we need your support on. Here’s How You Can Help: 1.
