Asalamu alaikum / Peace be upon you
Every generation faces the same question: How will we lead? This is a question that comes to mind especially on a day like today – as we reflect upon the question of sacrifice and leadership, exemplified throughout our history from the Prophet Musa (upon whom be peace) to Imam Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him).
How do we build the next generation of those who are willing to sacrifice what is easy in service of what is right?
This August 16 and 17, we’re inviting students from across the country to come together in Toronto for the NCCM Student Leadership Summit—a space to think, build, and lead.
This summit is about more than just challenging Islamophobia on campus. It’s about getting beyond the reactive.
It’s about building real strategies—together—on how to make our universities fairer, more inclusive, and more just. It’s about stepping up, not just to push for better policies, but to help shape the future of our community here in Canada.
We know the challenges are real. But so is the power of young people who care deeply and think clearly about where we go from here.
We need your ideas. Your energy. Your leadership.
To give you perspective, just one example of what came together after the Summit was a strategy to ensure that Meir Weinstein and Ron Banerjee, with their connections to hate movements, would not be welcomed back to the U of T campus. And alhamdullilah, that campaign was successful!
That’s what happens when we get beyond the reactive and think strategically about the future.
Read this op-ed written by one of the students about how she found the Summit impactful.
If you’re ready to take that next step, apply now to join us at the 2025 NCCM Student Leadership Summit – put on in collaboration and association with other incredible groups like CMHN and ISNA.
Our youth, everyday, are the ones leading this movement. This is a chance for leaders of MSAs, TMAs, and other student groups to come together to build out long-term strategies together.
Wasalam,
The National Council of Canadian Muslims
